President Muhammad Buhari has sent a letter to the Nigerian Senate requesting an indefinite extension of his leave from 10 days.This was confirmed today by the Senate when Senator Aliyu Sabi, spokesperson for the upper legislative chamber said the president did not specify when he would return. Premium Times reports him as saying, “We are also in receipt of a second letter informing us that he is extending his vacation because in the course of the routine checkup, his doctors recommended more checkups,”
He added that the Senate would look at the letter when it resumes on February 21. He however encouraged Nigerians to be patient with the government as it strives to find solutions to the country’s problems.
Meanwhile, Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has carried on with governmental activities including holding Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings in the president’s absence. President Buhari handed over to him as the Acting President just before he went on the vacation.
